
Rosie Perez (born Rosa Maria Perez on September 6, 1964) is an American actress as well as choreographer, dancer and activist. Her first big break came with Tina's character in Do the Right Thing (1989), then followed closely by White Men Can't Hop (1992). Perez's portrayal of Tina in Fearless (1993), earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Perez's leading roles in films include It Could Happen to You (1994) as well as The Road to El Dorado(2000), Pineapple Express (2007), as well as Birds of Prey (2018). She also received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations (in 1990-1994), and another Emmy nomination (2020-present) for her performance as the Flight Attendant. She has been in stage plays on Broadway such as The Ritz, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, and Fish in the Dark. During the 18th season, she also co-hosted on ABC's talk show The View. She was a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, Queens. [11] By 1999, her mother was living in poverty, in the Woodside Houses, when she died from complications of AIDS.
